Welcome to Child First Psychology – Multidisciplinary Child Assessments

From my own journey, first as a child navigating frustrations, and now as a parent, educator, and psychologist, I have come to understand how overwhelming it can feel when trying to support a child whose needs may not yet be fully understood.

There is no single guide to parenting, and no online search can truly reflect the uniqueness of your child or your family’s experience. Parents are often met with many different perspectives from well-meaning teachers, professionals, family members, and others. While offered with care, this can sometimes feel like a lot to hold, leaving parents feeling uncertain, overwhelmed, or questioning their instincts.

When a child experiences differences in their development, learning, or emotional world, it can be difficult to know where to turn or what kind of support may be most helpful. Many families find themselves managing this quietly, at times feeling unsure, alone, or concerned about how their child may be understood by others.

Child First Psychology has grown from an awareness of these experiences. It aims to offer a thoughtful and multidisciplinary approach to understanding each child, with care, respect, and openness. The focus is on building a holistic picture of a child’s strengths and areas of need, while supporting families in finding pathways that feel meaningful and appropriate for them.

This work is about supporting parents to feel more confident in their understanding of their child, and more supported in sharing that understanding with others. It also seeks to gently reduce feelings of guilt, shame, or isolation that can sometimes arise for parents, particularly when their child’s needs differ from what is typically expected.

At its heart, Child First Psychology is about supporting families, educators, and communities in developing a deeper understanding of each child, with a strengths based and neuroaffirmative lens that values individuality and supports each child in their own way of being and thriving.
